As part of F1rst Gen’s monthly workshops, they will partner with WKU Libraries on Friday to teach students how to read cursive.
Open to all students regardless of their experience with cursive, the workshop will provide an introduction to cursive writing. The workshop will be on Friday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the DSU Career Studio. Interested participants are encouraged to RSVP via Suitable.
The workshop will teach common letter shapes and how to identify unfamiliar words and letters.
Nancy Richey, the special formats librarian for WKU’s Special Collections Library, will bring historical documents for participants to see various examples of writing from the past. Following the examples, participants will be able to practice reading cursive through worksheets.
April McCauley, program specialist for the F1rstGen Initiative, said that she thinks there’s a big ripple effect for a workshop like this.
She said that through the workshop, “students can see a value to engage with other people and make connections and that ability to make a connection, to feel like they’re a part of history and their family.”
