On Saturday, E. A. Diddle Arena echoed with Greek chants and hit songs as WKU’s Greek community showcased their dance moves and acting skills.
A part of this year’s Greek Week activities, Spring Sing brought Greek organizations together to compete and celebrate through song and dance. During the event, 12 fraternities and 10 sororities showed off their prepared performances, cheered on by other members of the Greek community and beyond.
For Spring Sing, participating Greek organizations were tasked with creating a song-and-dance routine centered on a movie or television story of their choosing. It connected to Greek Week’s overall movie theme, titled Greekflix.
Eli Carter, co-chair for Spring Sing and Sigma Chi junior finance major, said that for him, Spring Sing showcases what Greek life is about to the community.

He said it provides an opportunity to see a group of college kids come together around the same goal, something you don’t see groups as large as some Greek organizations do.
Dancers and singers gave it their all in front of judges and the larger WKU community for four hours. Each performance included rehearsed dance numbers that told a narrative story arc, interspliced with scenes and audio directly from the movie that inspired it.
Anabeth Schneider, a senior psychology major and Delta Zeta sorority sister, has been on her Spring Sing team since her freshman year and has watched it change over the years.
“My freshman year, we had a small amount of girls do it, and the more that we talked about it, the more that we increased dancing skills, the more people wanted to come and just be a part of this,” Schneider said. “Over the years, we’ve just worked hard, had fun, and it’s all paid off for this.”
Delta Zeta’s performance, the first sorority to go, was inspired by Mean Girls. Dancers sported outfits inspired by the movie’s main characters and worked iconic lines into the background signs.

Schnieder said Spring Sing is one of her favorite days being part of Greek life.
“Coming in as a senior, this has been the most fun four years, getting to be involved in Spring Sing and doing it with an organization I’m so proud to be a part of,” Schnieder said. “It’s so awesome that I get to go to a school that puts on an event like this that brings everyone together.”
Greek organizations put many hours of time and effort into their performances.
One of Sigma Nu’s Spring Sing coaches, Takara Crist, said being able to see the work and reactions of their Cobra Kai performance was all worth it.

“I’m just proud of them, they’ve been so much work over the past couple months,” Crist said. “(They) killed it. We couldn’t have asked for anything better.”
Kaden Miller, Sigma Nu’s Social Chair and dancer for Spring Sing, said his favorite part of being part of Spring Sing was growing closer to his coaches through helping them.
“I’m been helping them get the guys together, you know, working with them, working with the fraternity,” Miller said. “Now, I have friends for life.”

Tyson Volpi, co-chair of Spring Sing and Alpha Omicron Pi sister, said that Spring Sing and Greek Week as a whole demonstrate the support and love that the Greek community has for each other.
“You can just tell everyone is here just based on what colors and what shirts are (worn),” Volpi said. “It’s just really awesome to see our Greek life come together.”
