The Faculty Senate met on Thursday to discuss the elimination of a current standing committee. 

The committee in question was the Colonnade General Education Committee. Instead, decisions regarding curriculum for general education courses will be shifted to the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee, done through the WKU General Education Oversight, Assessment and Improvement group. 

This group will consist of faculty who have five or more years of experience teaching general education. 

“It’s a group of people who will be committed to not just approving the curriculum, but also reviewing how students are doing with the curriculum and proposing suggestions for improvement,” Andrew Mienaltowski, current Colonnade General Education Committee chair, said. 

The Undergraduate Curriculum Committee makes the decisions for all other undergraduate programs except for general education programs. This change will unify those duties under one standing committee. 

Mienaltowski said the shift will provide benefits to students such as being better “connected to faculty,” and “getting more feedback about student success.”
