Despite shooting nearly 45% from long range Saturday, WKU Women’s Basketball fell on the road against Middle Tennessee State 73-63.
Junior forward Zsofia Telegdy scored 20 points on 6-11 long-range shooting and secured seven rebounds. Senior guard Destiny Salary added 14 points and four assists to the scoring.
The Lady Toppers were dominated in the paint, getting outscored 32-18 and allowing the Blue Raiders to shoot nearly 50% from the field.
Despite the loss, the Lady Toppers still hold third place in Conference USA.
First Half
The Lady Toppers started hot, leading 24-20 at the end of the first quarter. Telegdy (nine points) and Salary (eight points) dominated, combining for a 5-6 mark from deep.
The Lady Toppers led by six early in the second, but the Blue Raiders fought back to take a one-point lead into the break. Hayes led the scoring with four, and Telegdy hit another three to add to her performance.
Second Half
Although the Lady Toppers fought, MTSU took control in the third quarter, leading 55-48 entering the fourth. The Lady Toppers trailed by three with just over four minutes left, but the Blue Raiders went on a 7-0 run to seize control. Junior guard Acacia Hayes scored five points, and Salary stayed consistent with four.
Telegdy and Salary each scored to cut the deficit to four early in the fourth, but MTSU dominated the rest of the way as the Lady Toppers dropped a close one on the road 73-63. Telegdy led with six points, hitting two threes in the quarter to complete her best performance in conference play.
The Lady Toppers will be back in action this Thursday, Feb. 20 on the road against Sam Houston State. Tipoff is set for 6:30 pm.
