Former WKU football player Nacarius Fant was sentenced to five years in prison Monday for drug trafficking following his arrest in August of 2018.

Warren Circuit Judge John Grise sentenced the Bowling Green native to five years. His scheduled release date is June 16, 2024, according to the Warren County Regional Jail’s online database.

He was sentenced on three counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (greater than four grams, cocaine) and two counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (less than four grams, cocaine), and his five-year sentence came after he pled guilty, according to a report from the Bowling Green Daily News.

During four separate transactions between a confidential informant and Fant in July and August last summer, the former wide receiver sold a total of 32 grams of cocaine for $1,920, according to an arrest citation.

Kentucky State Police assisted with the arrest. Officers later found a small amount of suspected cocaine and about $500 cash during a search of Fant’s vehicle.

After being taken into custody during the traffic stop, Fant was charged with trafficking greater than four grams of cocaine, according to a press release from the Drug Task Force.

A long time standout on the football field, Fant tallied 117 receptions for 1,273 receiving yards and six touchdowns in his time on the Hill. During his senior season in 2017, Fant collected 74 passes for 704 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs.

Prior to his freshman season at WKU in 2014, Fant was a historic wideout for Bowling Green High School. Fant set every receiving record at BGHS, helping the Purples win three state championships. The star was named Kentucky’s Mr. Football following his senior season in 2013.
