There will be a new director at the Gatton Academy next semester.

Lynette Breedlove will replace the first director of the school, Tim Gott, who will become the principal of Palmetto Scholars Academy. Palmetto Scholars Academy is a public charter school, located in North Charleston, S.C., with “curriculum specifically designed for gifted and talented students”, according to its official website. Gott has held his position at Gatton since its establishment in 2007 and will assume his new position in June.

Breedlove is currently the director of advanced academic studies and secondary counseling of the Spring Branch Independent School District of Houston, according to her curriculum vitae. She also served as the coordinator of the gifted and talented program for the Fort Bend Independent School District in Sugar Land, Texas.  Breedlove’s education includes a doctorate in educational psychology from Texas A&M University, a master of education from the University of St. Thomas in Houston and a bachelor of arts in psychology from Rhodes College.

Breedlove was one of the three finalists for the position. Julia Roberts, executive director of the Gatton Academy, named Breedlove as the new director on May 21. Roberts said she liked Breedlove’s qualifications.

“She’s an outstanding candidate,” Roberts said. “And she was a good match for the expectations of the position.”

Breedlove will assume her position at the end of July.
