Miniard named Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week

Austin Lanter

For the second straight week, the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week is a WKU Lady Topper. Freshman Hannah Miniard was named by the Conference as the Pitcher of the Week Monday after her performances last week.

Miniard led the team to two wins over the course of the weekend against Sun Belt opponent Texas Arlington. In game two of the series she threw her first career no-hitter in an 8-0 win. The no-no was the second for WKU in a four game stretch and the first time two no-hitters have been thrown by WKU pitchers in a single season.

In both games this weekend Miniard went the distance and struck out 21 batters total, including a season-high 12 batters in game three. The only runs scored by UTA came off a home run after Miniard had held the team scoreless for 9.2 innings straight.

She allowed only four hits on the weekend and had an ERA of 1.00.

It is her first career award from the conference.

Miniard and the Lady Toppers (23-10-1, 6-0 SBC) will be back in action Wednesday for a midweek, non-conference game against MTSU (7-28, 2-9 CUSA).
