For the first time in three years, a WKU women’s basketball player has been named Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week.

Sophomore forward Chastity Gooch was named to that honor Tuesday after averaging 14 points, 11.5 rebounds and four steals this week in wins over Northern Kentucky and Florida International.

Gooch played 35 minutes against NKU Saturday in Diddle Arena, putting up 12 points and 12 rebounds in a 12-point Lady Topper win.

Then Monday the former Franklin-Simpson High School standout played one of best games in her WKU career, tallying 16 points, 11 rebounds and six steals in 39 minutes in a 62-56 win over FIU.

Gooch has recorded double-doubles in all three games this season, all of which have been Lady Topper wins.

The last WKU player to receive the award before Gooch was Amy McNear, who won the award Nov. 24, 2009.

The Lady Toppers will look to start the season 4-0 when they host Illinois State at 5:30 p.m. Saturday in Diddle.
