Former WKU All-American Bobby Rainey has made the Baltimore Ravens’ 53-man roster.

The running back told WNST.net, the website for a Baltimore sports talk radio network, on Friday that he had made the team.

Rainey holds WKU records for most rushing yards in a season (1,695 in 2011) and most rushing yards all-time (4,542).

He also ranks No. 11 in NCAA history with 6,906 all-purpose yards.

Despite his success with the Toppers, Rainey went undrafted in April and signed with Baltimore as a free agent after the draft.

He worked his way up the depth chart with his performance in the last month, posting 55 rushing yards, 163 receiving yards and two touchdown catches in four preseason games.

Rainey would likely be the third-string running back for the Ravens, backing up veteran Ray Rice and fellow rookie Bernard Pierce.

The Ravens play their first game of the 2012 regular season on Monday, Sept. 10 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
