WKU senior linebacker Tye Golden has been recognized for work away from the field.

Golden was named as one of 112 nominees to the 2012 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team on Wednesday.

The Lithonia, Ga., native has spoken to children in Bowling Green on school visits and taken part in the United Way Day of Caring, according to a WKU Athletics release.

A 22-member Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be selected by a panel of college football media members and former team members in September.

Eleven players will be selected from Football Bowl Subdivision teams. The other 11 will come from Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III and NAIA schools.

Fans will then be able to go online and vote for the team captain.

Other notable nominees for this year’s team include Alabama guard Barrett Jones, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray and Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones.

Past team members include former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning, former Mississippi quarterback Eli Manning and former Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.

Golden has seen time in 29 games during his Topper career. He recorded four tackles last season.
