Zollo to decide transfer destination by end of week

Former WKU forward Vinny Zollo will decide on his new school by the end of the week, a source close to the situation told the Herald Sunday.

Zollo will choose between Furman, Iona, Kent State, Ohio and San Francisco.

He’s visiting Iona this weekend.

The former George Rogers Clark High School standout will become the second WKU transfer to find a home this offseason, as former Topper guard Derrick Gordon signed with Massachusetts on May 4.

Zollo, Gordon and graduating guard Kahlil McDonald will be the lone members of WKU’s 2011-2012 Sun Belt Tournament Championship team to not return next season.

Zollo’s transfer process was originally slowed because of WKU’s concerns of his grades affecting the program’s academic progress rate.

After the fall semester his GPA sat below the 2.6 GPA benchmark number that transfers must obtain without affecting the school’s APR.

But Zollo has now been granted a full release by WKU, the source confirmed.

Zollo played in all 35 games in 2011-2012, starting in 14 of them. He averaged 3.7 points and 2.9 rebounds a game for the Toppers.
