Alfred State Community College (N.Y.), defensive back Brett Harrington has announced his verbal commitment to play football for WKU after he said he enjoyed his visit on campus the weekend of Jan., 20-22.

Harrington told the Herald “it’s official” Tuesday night after he was able to speak with Head Coach Willie Taggart on the phone about his commitment.

The 6-foot-1 junior college cornerback chose WKU over Akron and Buffalo.

Harrington was a four-time state track champion in high school.

He told the Herald in December he was excited by the prospect of playing alongside sophomore safety Jonathan Dowling and sophomore middle linebacker Andrew Jackson on the Topper defense.

Harrington is the second junior college prospect to pick WKU this week. Defensive end Calvin Washington (Eastern Arizona Junior College) has also announced his commitment to the Toppers.

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Washington chose WKU over Miami, Florida Atlantic, Louisiana-Lafeyette and several others.

The two join a lengthy list of commits from on-campus visitors during the Jan. 20-22 weekend, including offensive lineman Tyler English and defensive linemen Devante Terrell and Marquez Pride.
