Darrin Horn will be introduced as the new men’s head basketball coach at 8:30 tonight in the Diddle Arena Hall of Champions, President Gary Ransdell confirmed this afternoon.

“He will be a student’s coach,” Ransdell said.

The decision to hire Horn was reached this morning, Ransdell said.

Horn played for the Hilltoppers from 1992-95. He spent the past two seasons at Marquette as an assistant coach under Tom Crean, a former Western assistant and son-in-law of former head football coach Jack Harbaugh. The Golden Eagles reached the Final Four this season, losing to Kansas in the national semifinals.

Horn will replace Dennis Felton, who departed last week to become head coach at Georgia.

Horn, Holy Cross head coach Ralph Willard, Texas assistant Frank Haith and Western assistant Pete Herrmann were interviewed this weekend for the vacancy.

During his senior season at Western, Horn averaged 12.9 points per game and shot 44.2 percent from three-point range. He was named to the Sun Belt All-Conference Team that year.
