WKU Baseball senior starting pitcher Sean Bergeron was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Co-Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday afternoon.

Bergeron led the Hilltoppers to victory on Saturday as he pitched a complete game shutout. Bergeron went nine innings, allowing three hits and no runs. He struck out 16 batters while not walking any.

Bergeron’s 16 strikeouts on Saturday mark the most by a Hilltopper in a single game since at least 2005, when WKU began tracking statistics.

Bergeron was also named the D1Baseball March 5th Pitcher of the Day, one of CBNewspapers National Players of the Week and a Golden Spikes Performance of the Week finalist.

After this extraordinary performance, Bergeron’s season stats look very impressive. Bergeron’s ERA on the season is now 2.84 through three starts with 24 strikeouts and only one walk in 19 innings of work.

Bergeron now ranks 15th in the nation with his 24.0 strikeout-to-walk ratio and 18th with 0.47 walks per nine innings.

Bergeron will return to the mound this weekend in WKU’s three-game home weekend series against Illinois.
