The WKU Counseling Center is holding a five-session group program titled “Psychological Skills for Helping Self, Relationships, & Communication” for students that are interested in improving personal and communication skills.

The sessions will be held on Zoom from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on the following Wednesdays: March 23 and 30 and April 13, 20 and 27. The session topics for each of these dates are Introduction and Dialectics, Mindfulness, Emotion Regulation, Distress Tolerance and Interpersonal Effectiveness.

This program is explained to be an adapted version of Dialectical Behavior Therapy Skills Training for those interested in a way to learn more about and improve various personal and communicative skills in a group environment. This program specifically is designed to be a workshop for self-help and is not group therapy for professional treatment.

It is strongly encouraged that participants attend each session and practice the skills learned in between sessions to utilize the full benefits of the program. The first two sessions will cover foundational content and skills for the program. All five sessions will cover different content that is relevant to the session topic and information learned in previous sessions will be built upon.

Students must register at this link with their WKU email address by 8 a.m. on Tuesday, March 22 to participate in the sessions. If there are any questions or concerns about if the program is suitable for your needs and interests, contact Masami Matsuyuki, [email protected], at the Counseling Center before registering.
