WKU Softball splits series against UTSA

WKU Softball (22-14, CUSA 7-4) split the two game weekend series against the UTSA Roadrunners (7-29, CUSA 3-8) April 7-8 at the WKU Softball Complex.

 

GAME 1

WKU dropped game one, 7-2. 

Friday afternoons’ game was delayed due to inclement weather. WKU and UTSA picked up the contest from the third inning on Saturday morning. 

WKU took an early lead with an RBI groundout from senior Brylee Hage in the top of the first.

UTSA quickly responded with a solo shot to left tied it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first.

UTSA added four runs to their lead in the bottom of the second to make it 5-1. 

Senior Taylor Davis attempted to jumpstart the Lady Toppers with a sac fly in the top of the third making it 5-2.

UTSA hit a two run homer in the sixth to cap off the game one victory, 7-2. 

 

GAME 2

WKU won the final game of the series 9-2.

Hage put the Lady Toppers in the lead early with a solo blast in the top of the second, 1-0. Hage continued to carry the Lady Toppers with a two RBI double in the top of the third making it 3-0.

Davis extended the WKU lead in the top of the fourth with an RBI single that made the game 4-0. 

UTSA got on the board in the fourth with a solo home run. 

Davis grabbed her second RBI of the day in the top of the sixth with a groundout to second, 5-1. 

UTSA picked up another run in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI groundout. 

WKU put an end to any Roadrunner comeback hopes in the top of the seventh. A solo homer from freshman Randi Drinnon and a three RBI bomb from fifth year senior Fatih Hegh capped off a 9-2 WKU victory. 

WKU will look to build on their seven run victory against Lipscomb on Wednesday, April 12 at Smith Stadium in Nashville, Tennessee.
