The caffeine scene in Bowling Green continues to grow as Scooter’s Coffee opened at the corner of Broadway Avenue and the U.S. 31-W Bypass on Oct. 3.
The drive-thru coffeehouse provides a range of products from traditional hot coffee to iced drinks, smoothies, breakfast sandwiches and more. This location will be Scooter’s 15th nationwide since it was established in 1998.
“Quality and speed are what we’re all about,” Jonathan Muse, owner and franchisee, said. “We have ownership groups all across the country who genuinely care about the product that they serve.”
Muse, also managing the soon-to-be-open Glasgow location, said Scooter’s has plans to develop at least three more locations in Bowling Green over the next couple of years. Having broken ground this past May, this first store is being built by local construction company Builders by Design.
“We feel like there’s a great opportunity as part of the Bowling Green community and we want to go about it correctly,” Muse said. “I think that will show in our building and drive-thru experience.”
Scooter’s will be amid the crowded competition of coffee shops in the area including local favorite Spencer’s Coffee and fellow drive-thru service chain 7 Brew Coffee, which opened in March.
“Drive-thru service definitely plays an important role,” Nate Settle, operations director of Spencer’s Coffee, said. “We recognized it as a need for our own business as well.”
Spencer’s implemented a drive-thru service with the opening of its second location on the U.S. 31-W Bypass in 2020. Spencer’s now has three locations including the original on College Street and the newest in the Commons at Helm Library on WKU’s campus, as well.
“Coffee shops serve neighborhoods,” Settle said. “We understand what our role is and we’re really happy to be a part of this community. While I like to think that Spencer’s sets itself apart a little bit, we also understand there’s room in the market for other companies.”
Settle said Spencer’s hopes to continue its growth and maintain the quality of food and service among its competitors. According to Settle, there aren’t any plans to develop new Spencer’s locations anytime soon.
7-Brew Coffee has 130 stands nationwide and is continuing to grow. With a 4.6-star rating on Google, the Bowling Green location is among the hottest commodities in town.
Even so, Jonathan Muse is confident that Scooter’s will have no problem finding its way into the morning routine of coffee lovers in Bowling Green.
“Everybody loves coffee,” Muse said. “You hear people all the time say they can’t get their day started without coffee. We serve a quality cup of coffee quickly through the drive-thru and provide food and other items as well. That’s our job and that’s what we’re set out to do.”
