The WKU Student Government Association held its first meeting of the 25th Senate on Tuesday, April 22, where the newly-elected Senate was sworn in by former Speaker of the Senate Sarah Vincent.
Newly-elected Student Body President Rush Robinson also appointed the members of the Cabinet: Senior Senator Maggie Yates as Chief of Staff, Amelia Tucker as Senator-At-Large and Chief Communications Officer Preston Jenkins retaining his position for a second year.
During his speech to the Senate, Jenkins noted his work over the last year, including student scholarship opportunities.
“We awarded two student scholarships; these are student artists, and we’re able to promote them and promote their brands,” Jenkins said. “They created two T-shirts for us and they will be given to the last Senate.”

Junior Senator Caden Lucas, Senior Senator Sophia Bryant and Senior Senator and former Secretary of the Senate Hadley Whipple were each nominated for the Speaker of the Senate role. Whipple saw the Senate majority vote and earned the position.
“Since the day I came in, I knew I wanted to run for speaker,” Whipple said. “Even more, being the voice of the Senate is so important because I need to be approachable.”
The Herald asked President Robinson how he felt about SGA’s future as the 25th Senate begins.
“I’m really excited about this Senate,” Robinson said. “I know we got a lot of new faces, a lot of returning faces, but really I’m excited to see them grow into that role and make the most of this year.”
