The Panther got out of its cage. . .

WKU Women’s Basketball traveled to play the FIU Panthers Thursday night, where the home team clawed out a 70-60 victory.

This is WKU’s second loss in conference play, dropping them to 13-8 overall and 4-2 in CUSA.

The Panther offense overwhelmed the normally stout WKU defense despite the Lady Toppers forcing 22 turnovers and blocking six shots.  The Lady Toppers couldn’t avoid foul trouble, committing a whopping 27 personal fouls that turned into 33 free throw attempts for FIU.  FIU shot 42.9% from the three-point line, closing out any comeback attempt.

It seemed no shots would fall for the Lady Toppers. WKU shot 36.5% from the field and 25% from 3-point range.  The team made only 50% of their free throws.  It was all FIU as WKU only led for eight minutes of game time.

Junior guard Destiny Salary scored 18 points along with three steals.  Salary has been on a tear this season, averaging 14.9 points and four rebounds, while shooting 45.5% from the field.  Junior guard Alexis Mead added 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.

This concludes the Lady Toppers season in January, a month where they went 4-2.  They will travel to Huntsville, Texas to take on the Sam Houston Bearkats on Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. CT.

The game can be watched on ESPN+
