The WKU Student Government Association held its final meeting of the 24th Senate on Tuesday, April 15.
SGA did not have legislation to discuss in their final meeting and instead spent it addressing their peers before many members graduate or forego reelection.
Student Body President Sam Kurtz began his report by thanking Senate members for their work throughout the year.
Kurtz, who served as student body president for two years, will graduate at the end of the semester after holding executive branch positions during most of his college career.
After speaking before the Senate for the final time, he said, “Thank you guys for everything. Please be for the students, for whatever you do, SGA or not.”
Vice President Donté Reed thanked each of his fellow Executive Branch members individually during his final address to the Senate.
Reed spoke on his growth during his time in SGA and said, “I’m an introvert, so coming up here… my heart races every time. But I get up here and I’m thankful with the growth, and if I’m better than I was yesterday, that satisfies me.”
Chief Financial Officer Ethan Taylor started his report by reflecting on Sunday’s SGA Pollooza before using the rest of his time to thank Senate members.
Taylor thanked Kurtz and Reed individually, saying, “Sam and Donté, thanks for viewing me as the missing puzzle to the top three pieces.”
Kurtz, Reed and Taylor each received a standing ovation from the Senate after finishing their reports.
The 24th Senate reached new highs after receiving 295 total scholarship applications in the spring semester alone, greatly exceeding the 40 applicant average of past years, according to Student Experience Officer Savanna Kurtz.
The first meeting of the 25th Senate will be held on Tuesday, April 22.
