WKU Football heads away from home for the first time this season as the team takes on Toledo Saturday.
Quarterback Maverick McIvor continued his strong start to the season, throwing for 305 yards and five touchdowns in a win over North Alabama. Through two games, McIvor has thrown for 706 yards and eight touchdowns without throwing an interception.
McIvor claimed his second CUSA offensive player of the week award, sweeping the award through the first two weeks.
The Hilltopper offense has been rolling, totaling 96 points through the first two games of the season, the most in school history in the FBS era.
“It’s good to know what the team is capable of doing,” Head Coach Tyson Helton said in a press conference. “But we need to keep the pedal to the metal; we will be tested in every way this week.”
With a win over the Rockets, the Hilltoppers would start the season 3-0 for the first time since the Hilltoppers joined the FBS.
The Rockets are 0-1 on the season, losing on the road to Kentucky last week in a close game, 24-16.
Senior Quarterback Tucker Gleason had a solid week one performance against the Cats, throwing for 270 yards and a touchdown, with one interception.
The Hilltoppers need to watch for Wide Receiver Junior Vandeross III, as the senior led the way for the Rockets with seven receptions for 88 yards and a touchdown.
The Rockets’ defense dominated, only allowing 24 points to the Wildcats in week one.
The Hilltoppers defeated Toledo last season in a close game at Houchens-Smith Stadium, overcoming a 14-point halftime deficit to win 26-21.
“This is going to be the biggest challenge all year, those guys do a really good job as a staff and unit on offense,” WKU Football Co-Defensive Coordinator Da’Von Brown said. “[We] understand that it’s going to come down to the fourth quarter. Can we get to the fourth quarter and find a way to win that ballgame?”.
Kickoff is set for 6 p.m., and the game can be watched on ESPN+.
