The WKU Student Government Association announced a new bill supporting the existing Go With the Flow program and the WKU Food Pantry.
SGA initially created the Go With the Flow program to provide free menstrual products in bathrooms across campus. The new bill aims to extend on this program, providing a full box of menstrual products expected to last the remainder of the semester.
SGA will also be providing a donation box for hygiene products such as toothbrushes, toothpaste and soap.
“All of us females can say that it’s a basic need,” said Senator Caroline Yates, author of the bill. “I think this would be a great opportunity for us to reach that female demographic and give them resources that they need.”
The second bill to pass at the meeting allocated funding for borrowable umbrellas from the SGA office. Much like the calculators for borrowing SGA provides, they will now have umbrellas for students to borrow on rainy days as well.
SGA made an exemption for two candidates, Sophie Stirling and Xavier Spiess, to run as chief justices. Neither candidate has completed a year as an associate chief, which is required by the constitution, Blake Graham, chair of the Judicial Council, said. However the senate voted for an exemption through allowing the candidates to run.
“I think either of them would be a great candidate, so I’m excited to see what they do,” Graham said.
