The 1-0 WKU Lady Toppers welcome the 0-1 Kentucky State Thorobreds into E.A. Diddle Arena Saturday for their first home game of the 2024-25 season.
After a disappointing season last year where they went 15-17, and 6-10 in conference play, the Lady Toppers are looking to turn it around with an almost entirely new team. The Lady Toppers come into the season with nine new additions to the team. Seven are transfers.
The Lady Toppers traveled to Terre Haute, Indiana, to take on the Indiana State Sycamores and came out victorious 71-59.
WKU was led by Kansas transfer, junior forward Zsofia Telegdy who put up 25 points as well as four rebounds and two blocks. The Lady Toppers escaped with a win due to the active hands of junior guard Acacia Hayes who had 10 of the team’s 20 steals on the night.
KSU comes into Diddle Arena after falling to the Loyola Chicago Ramblers 91-56. The Thorobreds were led by graduate student guard Naja Fenelon who racked up a team-high of 16 points. Despite 16 points from Fenelon the rest of the team could not find the bottom of the net, as KSU shot 18-64 from the field as a team.
The Lady Toppers and the Thorobreds have met once before in the 2021-22 season where WKU handled Kentucky State 96-59. Saturday’s tip is set for 4 p.m. CT.
