The Student Government Association hosted a laid-back meet and greet over sandwiches and sodas to welcome new students to learn about SGA.
The event took place in the SGA office before the weekly meeting. The event was organized by the chair of the Enrollment and Student Experience Committee Jakob Barker.
“If we start with freshmen, they’re able to know more about what we do as a body, the power that we have, this organizational presence that we have, and we are able to serve the student body more if they know more about us,” Barker said.
After the meet and greet, students migrated to the senate chamber where Blake Graham of the Judicial Council swore Ciin Lun into the Faculty Welfare Committee.
Three bills were brought to SGA’s attention during the meeting.

The first bill requested funding for a new event titled the Big Red Rise event. The event will aim for students to build a stronger community on WKU’s campus. Big Red Rise will take place on Sept. 24 at 6:00 a.m. on South Lawn.
SGA will provide Krispy Kreme donuts for participating students. All grade levels are welcome to join the event. The Senate greenlit the funding for Big Red Rise and hopes to see this become a cherished WKU tradition.
The next two bills were tabled by SGA until next week’s meeting.
The second bill requested funding for a pumpkin carving event that would act as a second fundraiser for Hope Harbor. The first fundraiser was the Sippin’ n September event that took place on Sept. 3.
The final bill requested funding for a giveaway event for the SGA social media.
