WKU is paying musician Blanco Brown $50,000 to perform before WKU Football’s game against Florida International University on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
According to the contract with TrailerTrap Music LLC, Brown’s representative, WKU paid $25,000 on June 30, with the rest to be paid on the day of the show. Brown, who has 1.9 million monthly listeners on Spotify as of Oct. 8, was announced as the pregame performer on Sept. 25.
Along with the $50,000, WKU, referred to as the “purchaser” in the contract, is required to provide “pay for staging, production, and sound & lights per artist’s specifications.” WKU is also required to provide “pay for backline” and “on-site hospitality.”
WKU spent $59,925 on staging, audio and lighting for last year’s Flo Rida pregame concert.
According to the contract, Brown requires four dressing rooms for himself, musicians, dancers and crew, and a hotel that is “4 Star and up, or the highest star available in smaller markets.” The contract states WKU will provide a king suite for Brown.
The contract includes a list of dressing room requests, which includes:
- A bottle of 1942 Don Julio tequila, which is sold for $155 on totalwine.com
- Twenty-four red roses to be used for “audience interaction during the show”
- Twelve bottles of Fiji or Evian Water
- Six vegan or pescatarian meals
- One humidifier
Brown is the fourth pregame performer WKU has hosted since 2022, following Flo Rida last year, Jordan Davis in 2023 and Shaquille O’Neal performing as DJ Diesel in 2022. Last year, WKU paid over $241,000 for the Flo Rida performance, including $150,000 to Flo Rida.
Brown’s concert is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 14 on South Lawn. Kickoff for the game is at 7 p.m.
