The “Differentiation Workshop” will occur Nov. 5 and will teach how to differentiate in the classroom.
The workshop will cover differentiation, an educational practice in which instructors teach based on the needs of each student instead of using a blanket approach. It is targeted towards elementary and middle school general education teachers and specialists.
Mahurin Professor of Gifted Studies and the Executive Director of The Center for Gifted Studies, Julia Roberts, will lead the workshop. Roberts said that the workshop will look at strategies that ensure students at various levels of readiness are learning in the classroom.
“Those who need to work at the proficient or grade level have that opportunity, but everybody is studying the same topic or concept, just with different learning experiences,” Roberts said.
The $125 workshop will be held in the Eva and Jim Marten’s Alumni Center from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., and participants will receive a copy of Robert’s book, “Strategies for Differentiating Instruction”.
