SGA announces spring election results, DEI constitution amendment passes

The WKU Student Government Association announced the spring election results for the 25th Senate on Tuesday, April 15.

Student Body President-Elect Rush Robinson will follow Student Body President Sam Kurtz, who held the role for two years.

“My biggest hope is that the entire organization continues to hold critical to our mission,” Kurtz said. “We need to continue putting an emphasis on getting our resources in every corner of campus.”

Robinson ran unopposed on a ticket with Vice President-Elect Savanna Kurtz and Chief Financial Officer-Elect Gabriel Jerdon.

“I’m nervous because there are such big shoes to fill, and President Kurtz has put SGA in a really good spot,” Robinson said. “I’m also excited because it will lead to a new direction. New administration always offers changes, and I’m excited to see what those changes are.”

Bill 21-25-S, which restructures the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee and renames it to the Action and Opportunity Committee, passed with 88% of votes in favor by the student body.

“For SGA, it doesn’t mean much since the committee at its core is not changing,” DEI Committee Chair Megan Farmer said. “We felt that a name change was needed to better communicate the actions the committee will be doing.”
