WKU Director of Athletics Todd Stewart spoke on the state of student involvement at WKU Athletics events Tuesday at the WKU Student Government Association meeting.
“We ask people to support our programs,” Stewart said. “It has to be a two-way street, and everybody within the athletic programs takes a lot of pride on having an impact in our community.”
Stewart emphasized the relationship between sports and the fans. Almost 250,000 people travel to campus over the course of a year for athletics, Stewart said.

He said he wants to encourage students to utilize their tuition benefits by attending home sporting events for free. He emphasized the environment of a WKU home game as opposed to tuning in digitally or not at all.
SGA also passed a bill to foster future Hilltoppers.
Transfer student senator Sydney Rettig announced an event in which SGA will partner with the WKU Transfer Center. Rettig said SGA members will be tabling at the event and assisting attendees.
“This event encourages transfer students and prospective students to consider enrolling in WKU,” Rettig said.
She said SGA hopes to show potential future Hilltoppers what makes WKU’s campus “so great.” Rettig said SGA members can use their experience in different groups on campus to connect potential students with organizations that are right for them.
The event will take place Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m.
