The Student Government Association allocated $602.58 through three bills and one resolution at their weekly meeting Tuesday.
SGA allocated $287.67 for the Setting into Summer event, $239.94 for transfer student graduation cords and $74.97 for borrowable spikeball nets. The chamber also passed a resolution to enhance signage and navigation resources in Downing Student Union, which did not draw from the fund.
SGA’s last meeting of the semester next week will include deliberation on three bills:
- Bill 21-26-S. Funding for the National Panhellenic Council Preview Day
- Bill 24-26-S. Funding for the WKU Office of Sustainability Food Pantry
- Bill 25-26-S. A Bill to Fund Massage Therapy Vouchers for Student Stress Relief During Finals Week
Chief Financial Officer Gabriel Jerdon said that if every bill on the new business docket passes next week, SGA will have $71.17 left in its legislative discretionary fund.
All bills set for next week could pass and receive the full funding requested. However, if bills are amended to request more funds, not all may be approved.
Hadley Whipple, speaker of the senate, reminded the senators that debate over bills is normal for the end of the semester.
“I know we might have to be choosy with what we pass in the next couple of meetings, so just remember to be respectful,” Whipple said.
Malachi Humble, a senior senator, authored the Setting into Summer event bill. His bill will host a senior sunset cookout on Tuesday, May 5. He amended the bill to add the purchase of two 30 oz. bottles of mustard. The bill passed unanimously.

Sydney Rettig, a transfer/non-traditional senator, introduced the transfer student graduation cords bill, which will purchase 240 cords. The Transfer Center will help distribute the cords to graduates.
Humble made a motion to lower the number of cords purchased, in regard to the dwindling funds. He relented after Eli Carter, a junior senator, said he planned to reduce the amount his bill requested for spikeball nets.
Four senators spoke in affirmation of Rettig’s bill following the questioning period, and the bill passed.
Carter and senators-at-large Amelia Tucker and Evan Tuck authored a bill to purchase three spikeball nets for student use. The games may be checked out from the SGA office, similar to its Borrow a Hammock program. The bill passed unanimously.
SGA Student Body President Rush Robinson began his officer report by complimenting the start of SGA’s election. He said he was “excited to see who’s gonna be wearing the red jacket next year.”
“It was like Christmas morning yesterday, opening Instagram and coming on campus,” Savanna Kurtz, student body vice president, said.
Voting for next year’s SGA members opens Monday at 7 p.m. on TopNet.
